In this season of strife, with battle lines being drawn from sea to shining sea between a multiracial tide of angry young people waving signs and rows of law enforcement officers on horseback trying to maintain the status quo, it’s impossible for Americans of a certain age not to be reminded of a similar spring some 52 years ago, and to hear its echoes today.

Between the nationwide firestorm unleashed by the April 4th assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and the takeover of Chicago’s streets that August to protest a bitterly divided Democratic Party National Convention, 1968 introduced our nation to startling new realities in politics, race relations, civil discourse, the media industry and other aspects of American life.
On the occasion of the death of Senator Robert F. Kennedy on June 6, and as an incentive for students of history to delve more deeply into the truth and enduring legacies of all of the major assassinations of the 1960s, HistoryExhumed.com is pleased to announce a 20% DISCOUNT on all of its products, including DVD sets and digital downloads, effective through JULY 5th. Conviction to Commutation: Revisiting the Robert Wideman Case
On November 17, 1975, 23-year-old Homewood native Robert Wideman was among a trio of individuals who committed an armed robbery in which Nicola Morena was shot, later dying during surgery. Convicted of second-degree murder for his role in the fatal crime, Wideman was sentenced to life without parole. But the case didn’t die there; beginning in 1983, when Morena’s family settled a malpractice suit against the hospital where he was treated, Wideman sought and was granted a new trial on the grounds that the jury never heard crucial evidence that Morena could have survived had he received proper care. This past July, after seven unsuccessful appeals and more than 40 years in prison, Wideman was released on parole.
Please join Robert “Faruq” Wideman; Judge Jeffrey Manning, the case’s original prosecutor; defense attorney Mark Schwartz; state Secretary of Corrections John Wetzel; expert witness Dr. Cyril Wecht; and Professor of Sociology Norman Conti as we revisit this fascinating and controversial saga of criminal justice. With a special guest appearance by John Edgar Wideman, award-winning author of Brothers and Keepers.

Pittsburgh’s Dr. Cyril Wecht Applauds Call By RFK Jr. To Reinvestigate Father’s Assassination
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Forensic pathologist and former Allegheny County Coroner Dr. Cyril Wecht has long held the belief that there was a second gunman who fatally shot Robert Kennedy in Los Angeles half a century ago. With Kennedy’s son Robert Kennedy Jr. calling to reopen the investigation, Dr. Wecht is now hoping Americans – once and for all – will learn the truth about what happened in California that night 50 years ago. It was revealed over the weekend that Kennedy had a jailhouse meeting with Sirhan Sirhan last December. “The shot that killed Senator Robert Kennedy was fired 1 to 1.5 inches away from his head, just above and behind the right ear,” Wecht said.
Wecht, at age 87, has performed and/or consulted in tens of thousands of autopsies or post-mortems over the past more-than-half a century. He was not directly involved in the autopsy on Robert Kennedy after the Senator died in June 1968, but he was a consultant in the case to then Los Angeles County Coroner, Dr. Tomas Noguchi. “Sirhan Sirhan is in front of Kennedy.
Sirhan shoots — bang, bang, bang,” Wecht said. “No way, at any time, in any scenario, in any version, no matter how incredibly wildly embellished, was Sirhan was behind Robert Kennedy.” Wecht said although the autopsy results were clearly spelled out by Noguchi and others, including three military pathologists, Sirhan’s defense attorney, Grant Cooper, who died in 1990, for some reason effectively ignored that information at Sirhan’s trial. “An experienced criminal defense attorney never consulted a forensic pathologist, a criminalist, a ballistics expert going into the case to review things. Never had such testimony by such experts for the defense,” Wecht said.
Wecht said the LA County Coroner wasn’t the only person who called him after the Kennedy assassination; someone else reached out to him who was very close to the accused killer. “Well before the trial, I got a call asking me to be Sirhan’s lawyer. From whom? From his mother. His mother called me and asked me if I would be her son’s lawyer,” Wecht said.
On the 50th Anniversary of the MLK Assassination, Questions Still Abound
On the 50th anniversary of the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., HistoryExhumed.com and its educational partners not only in commemorating an American martyr to the cause of civil rights, but asked some hard questions about his death.....
Why did convicted assassin James Earl Ray withdraw his guilty plea within days of his
sentencing, claiming attorney and FBI coercion?
Why were ballistics tests unable to prove that the rifle dropped outside Ray’s Memphis
boardinghouse fired the fatal shot?
Why, nearly 20 years after a Memphis jury ruled that the local, state and federal governments
were liable for MLK’s death, have no additional criminal conspirators been named?
Interested in the answers to these and other questions?
On MAY 3rd and 4th, the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law hosted its 17th Annual Symposium, Of KENNEDYS and KINGS: Reinvestigating the RFK and MLK Assassinations at 50. Among the speakers are MLK associate and James Earl Ray appellate attorney Dr. William Pepper and former Tennessee Criminal Court Judge Joe Brown.

National Archives to Release Remaining JFK Files
OCT. 26, 2017 - The National Archives and Records Administration today is scheduled to release all remaining government documents relating to the assassination of JFK, as mandated by the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992. Unless otherwise ordered by President Trump, several thousand previously withheld investigative files will now be available to the public.
With researchers and historians anticipating everything from a treasure trove to a tease, it stands to be seen which end of the spectrum the files will trend toward, but what is clear is that the world’s curiosity about what really happened that distant day in Dallas remains unquenched.
HistoryExhumed.com is pleased to be in a position to help satisfy that curiosity. Whether you’re a novice in need of a primer on the case, an experienced researcher looking to fill in some gaps, or simply an amateur historian interested in hearing directly from some of the leading researchers and investigators of the assassination, we believe this is a good place to start. Please visit our Products page to learn more about our DVD collections and digital downloads, as well as how to purchase some of Dr. Wecht’s books.
Meanwhile, here’s what one of our advisers, the eminent forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht, had to say about the forthcoming release:

Calling all CONSPIRACY THEORISTS!
Wait, wait! Don’t leave yet… at least not until you know what a conspiracy theorist really is.
Let’s start with the word “Conspiracy,” the legal definition for which is nothing more than an agreement between two or more people to participate in an unlawful act. By this understanding, the vast majority of history-altering crimes have been conspiracies, from the crucifixion of Jesus to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and far beyond.
Now let’s throw in “theorist” – one who poses theories, informed explanations about unexplained phenomena.
Sounds simple – and sane – enough, right?
Well, it was simple, and may very well have remained so if not for the CIA and its network of media puppets and hapless victims.
How’s that?
It all began 50 some years ago with a secret April 1967 dispatch (see below) by the spy agency’s Clandestine Services unit meant to stifle dissent of the official version of the assassination in the wake of a recent spate of books critical of the Warren Report and with New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison’s investigation into Oswald’s local associations then under way. A half-century later, what was a secret psychological operation by our own government has succeeded in perverting a neutral term into a widely viewed pejorative that even some of our most progressive and best-informed journalists and historians are prone to use, whether sloppily or in a mutual effort to demean and stereotype those who would dare question the dubious notion that a mixed-up ex-Marine named Lee Harvey Oswald committed the crime of the century alone.
So next time someone calls you a “conspiracy theorist,” tell them, “You’re damned right!” Then tell them to do their homework, maybe beginning right here at HistoryExhumed.com!
